Dear Fellow Parishioners,
We have some exciting and long-awaited news to share with you! We are very pleased to announce that Bishop Peter Fenty has appointed the Rev. Canon Christopher Parsons to be our new priest. Canon Parsons begins his new position at St. Paul’s on Saturday August 1, 2020.
Canon Parsons was ordained a priest of the Anglican Church in Victoria, British Columbia in 2004, but has been serving as the Chaplain at the Anglican Church in Freiburg, Germany for the past five years. He is married and has two teenaged daughters.
As you can imagine, moving Canon Parsons and his family from Germany to Newmarket in the middle of a pandemic has its challenges. At this point, we are not exactly sure how that will happen. We sincerely hope that we will be able to celebrate Canon Parsons arrival in some capacity.
The Wardens will need to find temporary housing for the Parsons Family. If you have any leads on a suitable short-term rental, please let us know.
There is of yet, no indication of when churches may reopen for worship. However, we are already considering the measures we will need to take to ensure that once the government and public health deem it safe for us to reopen, that we be able to worship together in safety.
We ask you to keep Canon Parsons, his family, and the parish of St. Paul’s in your prayers.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Tremayne and Dawn Claxton Your Churchwardens
